Baby Chioma came to us at 3 months old and 5lbs 4oz. She was severely malnourished and in critical condition after she had been receiving mainly water and ground corn since birth. She was brought by her aunt when someone from her village told them about us. Baby Chioma’s mother had passed away a few hours after childbirth. Her aunt explained to us that her mother had regained consciousness just long enough to look over at her newborn daughter in her sister’s arms and name her “Chioma” meaning “God is good”. Those were her last words.
It is a miracle that baby Chioma survived as long as she did. We immediately came alongside her family with nutritional calories among other forms of support. We saw her on a daily basis initially, and eventually on a weekly basis as her family grew in confidence and ability to nourish their baby girl.
Within the last 2 months, baby Chioma has more than doubled her weight. She is strong, alert, and full of life. We thank God for another opportunity to share His goodness and love with a family in crisis.
The truth, however, is that Chioma is one baby of many thousands of severely malnourished infants in Nigeria.
More than ten new infants travel for miles to find us EVERY WEEK.
We only take the most severe cases.
We need your help.
